Healthy Weight For Life Overview

IMPORTANT: This program has been designed to assist you and your healthcare team, optimally manage your health. It does not replace the advice given by your own healthcare professional or medical practitioner. Please consult your GP before commencing this program and attend regular checkups to keep them updated with your progress.

With calorie (or kilojoule) restriction, increased physical activity and weight loss you may experience substantial improvements in your blood glucose control, blood pressure or cholesterol. As your measurements change your GP may need to make adjustments to the dosage of some of your medication. Please consult your GP before making any adjustments to your medication. For specific advice on how best to manage your specific health conditions please consult your GP, diabetes specialist or Accredited Practising Dietitian.


The Healthy Weight For Life© program is a unique step by step treatment process that is delivered in 3 clearly structured phases over 18 weeks.

Each phase has its own unique:

  • Eating plan
  • Activity plan
  • Online coaching plan

The overall aim of the program is to help you lose weight, improve your health AND learn the lifestyle skills that will help you control your weight for life.

 

The Healthy Weight For Life© program integrates the following components:

KicStart™ -  a unique, nutritionally complete VLCD shake (VLCD is simply an abbreviation of the medical term Very Low Calorie Diet). KicStart™ is used in the program to basically “kick start” the weight loss process.

Before being incorporated into the Healthy Weight For Life program - KicStart™ was thoroughly tested in a number of independent university and hospital clinical trials across Australia.

The results of these clinical trials have been presented at a number of Australian and International medical and scientific conferences. 

Special Dietary Considerations: If you have been advised at any time to follow special dietary guidelines eg. low protein, dairy free, gluten free, nut free etc. it is important that you speak with your supervising healthcare professional about your specific circumstances before commencing the Healthy Weight For Life program.


 

 

The TEMplate System™ -a comprehensive eating and activity modification program that has been developed by expert Australian dietitians to teach you how to: 

  • Understand the importance of portion controlled eating.
  • Select the right portion of different food and drink at each meal.
  • Develop a range of new habits to help achieve long term weight management.
  • Gradually build up physical activity to levels that are beneficial yet also realistic

 


 

Online coaching lectures - a planned sequence of lectures to help guide you through each phase of the 18 week program.

The progressive release of the lectures has been designed to build up knowledge over time and reduce the likelihood of "information overload"

Each lecture (and corresponding downloadable summary) supports a different aspect of the program or targets a specific learning objective and has its own printable summary. 

 


 

Personalised online self monitoring and tracking system - your own secure site where you can record your results and track your progress. A summary table of your results can be printed off to share with your GP or diabetes specialist. 

 

 


Telehealth - Personalised telephone motivation, support and advice.

 

A dedicated team of allied health professionals are on hand to answer  enquiries and to help members with strategies for overcoming barriers and problem solving techniques. Proactive, targetted motivation and support is provided to members via outbound telephone calls for those identified as needing some assistance.


Program Structure

Phase 1 - Motivational Weight Loss (week 1 – 6):

Phase 1 Eating Plan

  • Replace 2 meals each day with a KicStart™ shake (typically breakfast and lunch)
  • Use the TEMplate™ dinner disc and follow the instructions in your TEMplate™ book (pages 18 – 21) to prepare an enjoyable portion controlled dinner.
  • Enjoy a range of "free foods" – foods that can be eaten freely in addition to the KicStart™ shake and the TEMplate™ dinner (so there will be no reason to go hungry or get bored).

Phase 1 Activity Plan

Start out gently by increasing your incidental activity during the day PLUS progressively build up to achieving three 10 minute walks each day.

 

 

Phase 1 Online Coaching Plan

The phase 1 coaching plan provides all the information you need for the first 6 weeks.

  • Presentation 1 - Kick Off - introduction and instructions to get you started.
  • Presentation 2 - Energy Balance – understanding the concepts of Energy In versus Energy Out to achieve weight loss and weight maintenance.
  • Presentation 3 - Activity For Life – tips and guidance on how to safely build up Energy Out. 

 


 

Phase 2 - Consolidation Weight Loss (week 7 – 12)

 Phase 2 Eating Plan

  • Replace 1 meal each day with a KicStart™ shake (typically breakfast).
  • Use the TEMplate™ lunch and snack box and follow the instructions in your TEMplate™ book (page 15 – 17) to prepare an enjoyable portion controlled lunch and snack box.
  • Continue using the TEMplate™ dinner disc and the “free foods”.

 Phase 2 Activity plan

Build up to an average of 30 minutes walking each day. Alternatively you can use a pedometer to count steps and aim to build up to 10, 000 steps each day.

 

 

Phase 2 Online Coaching Plan

  • Presentation 4 - TEMplate™ Lunch Box – taking control of your food choices
  • Presentation 5 - Making Good Habits for Life
  • Presentation 6 - Healthy Mind for a Healthy Weight – strategies for remaining positive and focused.

 


 

Phase 3 - Weight Maintenance (week 13 – 18)

Phase 3 Eating Plan

  • Follow the instructions in your TEMplate™ book (pages 11 – 13) to prepare an enjoyable portion controlled breakfast
  • Continue using the TEMplate™ dinner disc, lunch and snack box and “free foods”
  • As a back up to your phase 3 eating plan you can use the "top up" KicStart™ shakes for situations where you simply don’t have time to prepare a meal or for the occasions where you need some additional help to stay on track.

Phase 3 Activity Plan

The aim of the phase 3 activity plan is to help you make your new pattern of physical activity a life long habit. All you need to do is focus on continuing the level of activity established in phase 2.

 

 

Phase 3 Online Coaching Plan

  • Presentation 7 - TEMplate™ Breakfast, Food and Drink Extras, Activity Blocks - instructions on how to plan and prepare a tasty and nutritious start to your day and how to balance “Food and Drink Extras” with “Activity Blocks”
  • Presentation 8 - Tracking Your Progress – teaching you how to self monitor to help ensure long term success.
  • Presentation 9 - Keeping it Going – strategies for maintaining your new weight and lifestyle skills.
